Racial Discrimination During The United States - 1592 Words
During the course of the United Statesââ¬â¢ racial history, being a minority has been no where near easy. Racial discrimination and prejudice were only hushed when M.L.K. gave the famous ââ¬Å"I Have a Dreamâ⬠speech, and even after that, people still judged based on the color of an individualsââ¬â¢ skin. In the 1960ââ¬â¢s, the atmosphere around race was very dense, and there was an extreme amount of tension between whites and blacks. The people of the United States new very well that they had to treat African Americans with respect due to the Declaration of Independence, but words on a piece of paper did not seem to do much when African Americans were discriminated. Now that there are no laws regarding racial undermining or in-equality, a new form ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦White supremacy has been a problem since the early nineteenth century when a group called the Ku Klux Klan originated. The KKK was a group of southern rebels that were acting out in ââ¬Å"r esistance to the Republican Partyââ¬â¢s Reconstruction-era policies aimed at establishing political and economic equality for blacksâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Kuâ⬠). This rebellious party of southern white supremacy would burn crosses and commit heinous crimes against blacks and white supporters of racial equality. The KKK evaporated into a small portion of the U.S. when the people of America were liberated into understanding that racial discrimination was evil, and that racially segregating people was cruel. The government labeled the KKK as ââ¬Å"terroristsâ⬠and banned any type of organization that affiliated with them, but even now, even when Americans believe that white supremacy groups have disappeared, the police brutality cases are proving this belief to be false. It doesnââ¬â¢t matter if the assailant is African American, Indian or Asian because the Executive branch renewed the U.S.A. Patriot Act, which allowed the police task force to racially profile, and make decis ions based on an assailants ethnicity.
